Merton Heritage Centre:

As of Monday 17 May 2021, we have reinstated the quiet study area on the second floor of Morden Library.

There are now 6 study spaces available during normal opening hours (Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.) Although opening hours remain unchanged, there is no longer a limit on the amount of time you can spend in the library.

There is a seventh study space available in our Local Studies research area. I will also be reinstating use of our reader printers and magnifier from today. There will be a limit of 3 people at a time in the Local Studies research area (1 using the study table, 1 using a reader printer + 1 browsing.)

In order to keep our customers and staff safe, we are doing the following:

Track and trace details will be requested on the ground floor, or customers can use the relevant NHS QR code posters with their smart phones.

Maintaining one way travel through the library (lift or main stairwell for upward travel / fire exit staircase and lift for downward travel and / or exit.)

Customers are required to wear a face covering in the library, unless medically exempt.

Ensuring additional ventilation at all times.

Social distancing – study space is limited to 1 person per table to meet distancing requirements. (Chairs / furniture have also been specifically positioned to meet this requirement.)

Hand sanitiser is available at the counter

Public toilets are available in the Civic Centre concourse. The Library toilets are currently only available to disabled and vulnerable customers due to social distancing requirements.

We are carrying out additional cleaning of study tables, equipment and frequent touch points. Customers are asked to notify heritage or library staff when they have finished using a study table or reader-printer – we can then ensure that everything is cleaned before the next usage.

Customers are requested to place any library books or resources into the boxes on our quarantine trolley after use.

We are asking customers to consume food outside the library.

As per pre-pandemic service – no food or drink can be consumed in the Local Studies research area (in order to protect historic documentation.)

I can provide research assistance, either in person, or by phone/ email. You can also find a wide range of heritage resources on our webpages and Youtube channel ( links shown below.)
