A Reminiscence Roadshow about shops and shopping during the 1930s, 40s and 50s created from the words of those who lived in west London during those years.
Down our High Street is a Reminiscence Roadshow about shops and shopping during the 1930s, 40s and 50s … created from the words of those who lived in west London during those years.
It tells stories of the days when the Sunday joint was delivered by the butcher’s boy on his bike, and milk arrived at your door on a horse drawn float. When the grocer individually cut and wrapped the bacon and cheese, and weighted out your order of tea … in the days before supermarkets and shopping malls!
The PlayBack group at the Questors Theatre in Ealing has been creating community theatre from the memories of local people for over 20 years. It also creates and performs an ongoing programme of Reminiscence roadshows, on request, for voluntary and community groups around west London.
Reminiscence roadshows are informal entertainments created from collected reminiscence material. Each set of memories is based on a specific theme, and is brought alive by a team of readers. The shows last about 30 – 40 minutes and, afterwards, the PlayBack group would like to invite their audience to share their own reminiscences with them over a cup of tea.
