Bill Rudd Collection: St Helier Estate
Bill took over 500 slides of the St Helier estate where he had lived since childhood. These are gradually being scanned and added to the website and the links in the table below will eventually display all his slides of the appropriate roads. It appears that he did not photograph every road within the estate, so these links will need editing once the collection is complete. Please be patient! This is a work in progress!
The estate is crossed by St Helier Avenue named, like the estate, after LCC councillor Lady St Helier, while the remainder of the following roads are of ancient origin.
Address | Address | Address |
St Helier Avenue | Bishopsford Road | Central Road |
Farm Road | Green Lane | Green Wrythe Lane |
Love Lane | Moreton Green | Wrythe Lane |
Wrythe Green | (St Helier Station) |
However, the majority of the roads, as listed below, were named after monastic sites and these are explored further in another of Bill’s projects, accessible at https://mertonhistoricalsociety.org.uk/bill-rudd-collection-abbey-roads//
