Merton Heritage Service events

Staff and volunteers at Merton Heritage Service have been creating a range of resources to enable people to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8 May.

Visit: https://photoarchive.merton.gov.uk/ve75 to access online displays, period film, crafts, ration book recipes and puzzles. Further film footage, reminiscence material and heritage trails will also be added before Friday’s celebrations. The latter can either be used during lockdown exercise breaks, or followed online from the comfort of home using the free IZI travel app. We would also like local people to make a Dove of Peace to display in their windows as part of a spotter exercise for children.

The Merton Memories website now features a World War II slideshow and we have highlighted our digitised wartime images collection –

My wonderful volunteers have also been helping me to produce varied heritage activities to lighten the lockdown – see https://photoarchive.merton.gov.uk/activities – accessible via the Puzzles and Activities tab from the Merton Memories homepage.

We are adding more material every few days – hopefully this will provide a welcome distraction and will also help everyone to learn more about Merton’s colourful past.
